About the Ssengonzi Charity Foundation

Our Inspiration

The Ssengonzi Charity Foundation was born from the legacy of Dr. Robert Ssengonzi, a devoted husband, father, and son of the Rakai District in Uganda. Before his passing from intestinal cancer in 2018, Dr. Ssengonzi dedicated his life to serving those around him. He sponsored orphans who had lost parents to HIV/AIDS, empowered widows with skills to generate income for their households, and equipped single mothers with technical training in tailoring, hairdressing, and design.

Rooted deeply in the villages of Kituntu and Kakoma where he was raised, Dr. Ssengonzi worked to improve the lives of his neighbors. He brought electricity to Kituntu by supplying transmission line infrastructure and built teacher housing for Kakoma Primary School, to help ensure quality education for future generations. In his final days, he asked his wife, Madam Joy Ssengonzi, to carry on this work. Madam Joy, alongside their children, continue his legacy, bringing hope to the orphans, widows, single mothers, and elderly in the communities he loved.
